SUPPLIES:

  • assorted strips of leather in various widths (1/2" to 1") and lengths (ranging from 7"-10")

  • self adhesive snap

  • needle and embroidery floss or crewel wool for embellishment

  • vintage buttons for embellishment

Using a straight edge, cut
your pieces of leather to the desired size.  This size is up to you and
depends on the size of the wrist and whether or not you want the
bracelet to fit snugly or hang loose.  If you are making a gift and
don't know the wrist size of the recipient, a safe bet is to cut the
leather strip between 8"-9". I make my bracelets 1" wide so there is plenty of room for the snap and to add embellishment.

Using needle and either crewel wool or embroidery thread, do some decorative stitching along the length of the leather.  Make sure the knots are tied securely.

Following the instructions on your package of snaps, apply the proper hardware to each end of the bracelet.  I like to use snap setters, but if you don't want to do it this way, the snaps you tap into place with a hammer work just as well.

i LOVE this! where did you get the leather and button snaps?

i buy all of my leather from the local tannery. if there is one near you, they usually have remnant bins with small, odd sized pieces of leather at good prices!

if not, small pieces of leather in basic colors can be found in almost any craft supply shop, such as michael's or jo-ann fabrics.

the snaps are from the fabric shop.

glad you like the tutorial!

i loved this tutorial but haven't been successful just yet because i'm kind of a moron when it comes to the snaps. i couldn't seem to get them in (even with a setter) without smooshing the snaps. any suggestions?
